Island bestie

So never in a million years did I think that the security guards who work where I live would turn into some of my closest friends. Ever.

My best friend on the island by far is my friend, Pierre. He is SUCH a punk. When I first met him I thought he was such a wiener because he seemed too cool for school and hardly spoke a word, I tell him this all the time, now it's funny. He's just apparently very shy at first. I don't tend to get along with shy people, I always interpret their being shy as their being rude. Oops...

Anyways, Pierre and I (once he actually started talking around me) hit it off right away in our mutual love of music, he told me he had big plans for me to show me around the island, so one Saturday (probably about two months ago--I'm really behind on blogging) he took me to town (literally) and showed me the island from his perspective, and things he likes to do.

I honestly don't even recall everything we did because from 9am-7pm we were in and out of the car, driving to different places, meeting a bunch of his family, all of his friends, and it was such a busy day, but I had so much fun seeing the island in a way different from the tourist perspective.

The first place we stopped was this giant airplane restaurant that I've always been curious about, the inside of it ended up being humongous, its attached to a house, so it's a fairly big place.
After the airplane restaurant Pierre took me to Philipsburg to a bunch of music stores, radio stations, and to see some steel drums played...I seriously came very close to buying a guitar, I can't even play guitar (yet) but I want one. Badly.
Then we hit up the barber shop, THIS I was most excited about. In school, male clipper cuts were always my favorite thing to do, the clippers I brought are getting so dull and old and they're in desperate need of replacement so I haven't done many men cuts lately, and I dearly miss it. I've always contemplated working in a male only salon that just specializes in men cuts, but have never finalized whether or not I'm certain I want to go into that area alone, I think I'd miss womens cuts and colors too much. The barber shop was super little, but I sat in between two other men who were waiting, the guy on my left shared the newspaper with me, asked where I'm from, etc, and people kept opening the door to pop their head in and say hello because everyone knows everyone there. It was so old fashioned seeming. I loved it.

After the barber, we head up to Middle Region. Pierre wanted to show me where he used to work, and wanted me to meet some of his closest friends. As soon as we got there I met his friends Addison and Entry. Addison is a super talented rapper who has an album out that Pierre gave me a couple months back, he's very talented. While I was talking to Addison, I all of a sudden see Pierre riding around on a unicycle that his old boss apparently taught him to ride...couldn't stop laughing watching him.
Addison (Adi), Entry, Pierre and I hit up "50 Cent Bar" which is where they wanted to teach me to play pool, I was freaking awful, but I DID beat them in chess. Whazzuppp?!

Then the four of us headed up to their other friends house and Pierre wanted to show me this amazing view, it was gorgeous. This island has so many pretty views because of the cliffs and overlooks...they never get old to look at, at least I don't think so.
Our last stop was at the zoo! Woot! Of course my camera died right after we got there, so I only got a picture of the birds which is fine, because they were so cute. I already told someone to buy me a parrot for my birthday last year, but I still haven't gotten one, so that super sucks. Bueller? Anyone?
Pierre and I stopped at McDonalds on the way back home because we were starving, and because he'd literally sell his soul for a McChicken.

It was a fun day, got to see a lot of cool things I wouldn't have seen if I didn't know Pierre, because they weren't all exactly "tourist attractions" and that's why I liked it. Hanging out with people who actually LIVE here is always a lot of fun for me, they know the good places and nice people.

I'm glad Pierre works here so I can just go down and talk to him while he finds me good music to listen to on his precious blackberry that he loves oh so much.

  1. Good morning how are you?

My name is Emilio, I am a Spanish boy and I live in a town near to Madrid. I am a very interested person in knowing things so different as the culture, the way of life of the inhabitants of our planet, the fauna, the flora, and the landscapes of all the countries of the world etc. in summary, I am a person that enjoys traveling, learning and respecting people's diversity from all over the world.

I would love to travel and meet in person all the aspects above mentioned, but unfortunately as this is very expensive and my purchasing power is quite small, so I devised a way to travel with the imagination in every corner of our planet. A few years ago I started a collection of used stamps because trough them, you can see pictures about fauna, flora, monuments, landscapes etc. from all the countries. As every day is more and more difficult to get stamps, some years ago I started a new collection in order to get traditional letters addressed to me in which my goal was to get at least 1 letter from each country in the world. This modest goal is feasible to reach in the most part of countries, but unfortunately it’s impossible to achieve in other various territories for several reasons, either because they are countries at war, either because they are countries with extreme poverty or because for whatever reason the postal system is not functioning properly.

For all this I would ask you one small favor:
Would you be so kind as to send me a letter by traditional mail from St Marteen? I understand perfectly that you think that your blog is not the appropriate place to ask this, and even, is very probably that you ignore my letter, but I would call your attention to the difficulty involved in getting a letter from that country, and also I don’t know anyone neither where to write in St Marteen in order to increase my collection. a letter for me is like a little souvenir, like if I have had visited that territory with my imagination and at same time, the arrival of the letters from a country is a sign of peace and normality and an original way to promote a country in the world. My postal address is the following one:

    Emilio Fernandez Esteban
    Calle Valencia,39
    28903 Getafe (Madrid)
    Spain

If you wish, you can visit my blog www.cartasenmibuzon.blogspot.com where you can see the pictures of all the letters that I have received from whole World.

Finally I would like to thank the attention given to this letter, and whether you can help me or not, I send my best wishes for peace, health and happiness for you, your family and all your dear beings.

    Yours Sincerely

    Emilio Fernandez
